Ocean County College’s global education experiences, spanning both national and international destinations, offer students and community members invaluable opportunities for experiential learning.  These travel seminars, led by our dedicated faculty members, aim to foster cross cultural understanding and equip attendees with a global perspective.  Scholarships may be available through the Ocean County College Foundation (see information below).

Italy Travel Seminar – Global Sciences and Humanities

The itinerary includes excursions to:

  • Rome: Ancient Rome, Colosseum, Vatican Museums including the Sistine Chapel, Casa de Goethe, Museo Leonardo Da Vinci, Piazza del Popolo, the Pinchia Castle, Spanish Steps, Keats Shelley House, Antico Café Greco, Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, Piazza Navona, Castel Sant’ Angelo, Trajan’s Column, Capitoline Museums, Mamertine Museum, Borghese Gallery, Capuchin Monastery and Crypts, Santa Maria Vittoria, Basilica Santa Maria Maggiore, Baths of Caracalla, Circus Maximus
  • Assisi: St. Francis Basilica, St. Clare Cathedral, the beautiful Village of Assisi
  • Siena: Duomo, Santa Maria Della Scala, Piccolomini Library, Piazza del Campo, Shrine of St. Catherine, Santuario Casa di Santa Caterina

Dates: January 1, 2025 – January 16, 2025

Price: $6,071.00 total cost

$3,036.00 for in-county students who qualify for the half-price Ocean County College Foundation Scholarship

Package Includes:

  • Round-trip airfare
  • All transports within Italy
  • 3-star and 4-star hotels (double occupancy)
  • All breakfasts are included as well as the first and last dinner (as noted on itinerary)
  • Scheduled tours and admissions as noted on the itinerary
  • On-site lectures
  • Trip insurance
  • Price includes tuition for one 3 credit course (Second course is an additional tuition and fee.)

Not Included:

  • Airline excess bags or overweight baggage fees (one checked bag and one small carry-on allowed on Lufthansa)
  • Any meals and activities not listed on the itinerary

Registration & final payment deadline: All applications and payments are due no later than August 23, 2024.  Space is limited to 15 people.

France Travel Seminar – Summer 2025

Immerse yourself in France’s rich culture through our 8-day study abroad trip that brings history and the humanities to life. Our trip is led by Professor Kristyn Stout, who is teaching HUMN 252 (Travel Seminar: Studies in the Humanities), and Dr. Justin Pfeifer, who is teaching HIST 240 (Travel Seminar: Studies in History). Explore the crossroads of history and literature in France with two dynamic professors, where every city street and monument become your classroom!

The itinerary includes excursions to:

  • Paris: Montparnasse Tower, Musée Rodin, Musée d’Orsay, the Louvre, Palace of Versailles, Seine River cruise, walking foodie tour, an evening ghost tour at the Père Lachaise Cemetery, Paris Catacombs, and the Eiffel Tower
  • Rouen: Joan of Arc’s Church, Notre Dame Cathedral in Rouen
  • Normandy: Omaha Beach Museum, American Cemetery & Memorial
  • Tours & Amboise: Chateau Royal d’Amboise, Chateau du Clos Lucé

Dates: June 26 – July 3, 2025

Price:

  • $3252 for in-county students, which includes a half-price Ocean County College Foundation Scholarship for in-county students in good academic standing.
  • $6503 for out-of-county students (not eligible for 365球赛平台 Foundation Scholarship)

Package Includes:

  • Round-trip airfare & transportation to the airport
  • All transportation within France
  • 3-star and 4-star hotels (2 people per room)
  • All breakfasts and dinners
  • Admission to all tours & activities
  • Tuition for one 3 credit course

Ireland Travel Seminar-Global Sciences Course

Projected Date: Summer August 2025

This itinerary includes excursions to:

  • Dublin:  Kilmainham Gaol, where the 16 Revolutionists were executed for the Easter Rising of 1916 when Ireland tried to gain its independence from great Britain and the Crown, Trinity College for the Book of Kells, an ancient manuscript of the New Testament, Museum of Literature in Ireland (MoLI) for an outstanding lecture by one of the very best authorities on James Joyce, renowned author from Ireland, Chester Beatty Museum of Ireland with hundreds of pieces of culture, art, clothing, and ancient scrolls and papyri from the biblical times, Dublinia Viking Museum with recreations of Viking and Medieval era buildings (houses, etc.) and street scenes, National Museum of Ireland with collections from Paleolithic times and especially the “Bog Bodies” from 2000 BC
  • New Grange and Knowth: Possibly a visit to New Grange.  A 5000-year-old passage tomb, older than the Egyptian pyramids and Stonehenge built around 3000 BC
  • Belfast, Northern Ireland: Peace Wall, Ulster Museum: located in the Botanic Gardens in Belfast, has around 8,000 square meters (90,000 sq. ft.) of public display space, featuring material from the collections of fine art and applied artarchaeologyethnography, treasures from the Spanish Armadalocal history, numismatics, industrial archaeology, botanyzoology and geology. It is the largest museum in Northern Ireland, and one of the components of National Museums Northern Ireland
  • Giant’s Causeway:  An area of about 40,000 interlocking basalt columns, the result of an ancient volcanic fissure eruption
  • Sligo:  A beautifully quaint typical Irish village on the Garavogue river with a history that dates back to 4000 BC, along with Drumcliffe Church, and Sligo Abbey.  Views of Ben Bulben, a 300-million-year-old mountain, with its spectacular “Stairway to Heaven,” a wooden stairway to the top
  • Connemara:  A drive through the Connemara Park has unbelievably beautiful vistas as you wind through the mountains and around the waterways and loughs (lakes) of the Connemara.  The marble here is over 5000 years old. Roundstone Village, Ireland’s most picturesque village is the perfect place for lunch.  Sits on the western arm of Bertraghboy bay.
  • Glengowla Mines:  This is the best sheepdog exhibition around.  You will learn so much about animal behavior and how the dogs have managed sheep for over 6000 years.
  • Galway:   It lies on the River Corrib between Lough Corrib and Galway Bay. It is the most populous settlement in the province of Connacht, the fifth most populous city on the island of Ireland and the fourth most populous in the Republic of Ireland.  Here is a great place to truly immerse in the local culture as there are musicians, poets and actors on every corner in this college town.  Located near an earlier settlement, Galway grew around a fortification built by the King of Connacht in 1124.
  • Cliffs of Moher: Breathtaking views of the Wild Atlantic Way on the western coast of Ireland
  • Irish National Stud and Gardens: Incredible stallions whose lineage is the highest in the world.  A Japanese Garden that is one of the oldest in Europe and one of the largest gardens located outside of Japan.
  • Merry Ploughboys:  The best of true Irish music and dance after a delicious meal when we say, “Farewell” to the Emerald Isle.

  • Price will include tuition for one course (3 credits of Science elective)

The course requires the approval by the Ocean County College Board of Trustees.  It is anticipated to be approved by November 30, 2024.

Scholarships For Global Education Experiences

365球赛平台 Foundation Scholarships:  The 365球赛平台 Foundation frequently offers partial scholarships for full-time 365球赛平台 students to participate in 365球赛平台-sponsored travel seminars and study abroad experiences.  Students should contact the professor leading the travel seminar for information on 365球赛平台 Foundation scholarships available for that particular global education experience.

Outside Programs & Scholarships: The US State Department lists study abroad programs and scholarship opportunities on their website.
